Slack is where the OHT community lives and breathes. It’s our main comms platform and where all the behind-the-scenes magic happens. We use it to chat, plan, share resources, and keep everything moving across the community. The more you use it, the more connected and supported you’ll feel.

Here’s how to use it like a pro:

👥 Invite people in

Want to bring someone into the Slack community? Lovely. Use this invite link to get them started:

Just a heads up, you can’t link people directly to a specific Slack channel from outside. So once they’re in, let them know which channel to join.

📣 Your channels: public and private

Each community has two main Slack channels:

  1. Public channel (#oht-your-community-name)

This is where your community hangs out. It’s run by you and your volunteer crew. You can post updates, interesting articles, event links, discussion threads, polls or anything your community might find useful or fun. This is your main space to interact and build community.

  2. Private channel (🔒core-team-your-community)

This one’s just for your core planning team. Use it to coordinate, plan events, chat about logistics or ask questions. The OHT core team is also in here, so you can easily get advice, feedback or support. We really encourage you to use this space. It keeps your work visible, helps avoid duplicated efforts and makes it easier for us to help out when you need it.
